Compare SIM Only Plans

Of all of the mobile plans that you have to choose from, the SIM only plans offer the most flexibility, plus these plans tend to be the most affordable. One of the most significant advantages to choosing one of the SIM only plans is that you are free to use just about any provider.

With the SIM only deals you do not have to limit yourself to a particular provider, you can choose any network that offers a SIM only plan. These are low cost plans that may offer lower rates for calling, unlimited text messages and more. You will find that you can get all of these advantages, and probably pay a lot less than you would for a traditional calling plan.

About SIM Only Plans

SIM stands for Sim Identity Module; this is the card that must be placed in your mobile phone before you have access to service. When you purchase a new phone from a provider, it will usually come with a SIM card that you put into the phone to activate it. These phones are locked and will only take the SIM card for the network provider that you bought the phone from.

With SIM only plans you can keep your own phone and only pay for the service from the provider. Instead of sending you a phone and a card, the network provider will send you a SIM card to place in your phone. Before you can take advantage of one of these SIM only plans, you will need to have an unlocked phone.

SIM Only Plans and Unlocking Your Phone

If you have a phone that you are satisfied with, there probably isn’t any reason why you would need to go with a traditional contract for mobile service that offers new phones. Simply contact the provider that sold you the phone and ask how you can get it unlocked. In most cases there will be a fee for unlocking your phone, but if you have fulfilled your contract, the fee should be small. If you are unable to get your phone unlocked you can still take advantage of SIM only plans by purchasing an already unlocked handset.

When you are on a tight budget the SIM only plans make a lot of sense, plus they give you the freedom to change providers if you find that you are unhappy with the service you are getting.
